Meditation routines, Ayurvedic lifestyle recommendations, and commentary on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are included in this work to encourage Self-realization and inner tranquility. Skillful meditation, healthy living, and realization of our Eternal Self are the practices of Kriya Yoga, and it is through our own consistent practice of Patanjali’s methods that the lineage of enlightenment continues.

In 2000 Ryan Kurczak was initiated by a direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda. For six and a half years he served as a minister for Center for Spiritual Awareness.

“As you are reading, Ryan is right there with you, quietly telling you, ‘Don’t forget. You are the Seer, the Eternal Self.’ Read this work slowly, attentively, again and again, and your life can be transformed.”
– Don Salmon, Author, Yoga Psychology

The practice of Kriya Yoga Vichara integrates techniques based on the teachings of BookCoverKYVParamahansa Yogananda and the method of Self-Inquiry presented by Sri Ramana Maharshi. In this book, you will find descriptive reviews of the methods taught during Kriya Initiations, how to effectively practice Vichara, and how to integrate the two for optimal results. Beginner, intermediate and advanced routines are provided.

This book strips away the fantasy surrounding the spiritual path and describes the intensive, yet subtle, work required to master one’s own consciousness and realize our timeless being. Kriya Yoga Vichara is for those advanced individuals willing to put forth the required Self-effort that results in the realization of Eternal Grace.

“It is the internal knowledge of the Self, which never waivers or dims, that is the true mark of a realized being. And no one will ever know that but you. This is the way of yoga. This is the result of Vichara (Self-inquiry) supported by Kriya (yogic techniques).”

A Course In Tranquility: Integrating Spiritual Practice, Effective Living, & Non Duality

Published March 22, 2013.

Published March 22, 2013.

“When you come upon a teaching that is clear and unmistakably true, it is gift. There is much confusion about how a person should go about living their life and a million different people willing to tell you how to do it; so if you find yourself with the grace of this book, then know without a doubt that you have received a gift of clarity as well as an invitation to take up the reigns of your own life and steer the course to a life of tranquility.

As an author and teacher, Ryan shares his life’s work. You will not find parroted words or spiritual platitudes, nor will you be comforted in the blankets of delusion. This is a straightforward, no bullshit exposition on truth that will illuminate areas where you find yourself lost in confusion and offer methods that have been employed since time immemorial to ground our rampant human condition in the crystal clarity of eternal wisdom.

This book progresses beautifully along the theme of ‘first things first’, taking the reader on a journey that begins by addressing the most practical elements of how to live a balanced, healthy life and continues pointing all the way to Ultimate Truth, which transcends it all (and back again).

However, we don’t take off to run a marathon if we have never even jogged around the block. To run a marathon takes training, and to realize the deepest truth takes an equal discipline and devotion – the way of which is outlined clearly in the pages of this book.

And even in its practicality, love touches every aspect of your heart in reading this teaching. It is that pure, unattached love from which Ryan’s teaching is grounded that holds the most transformative power. This ground is authentic and without agenda. You can rest in knowing you will not be lead astray with empty promises of becoming something better, more or different from what you already are.

What you will find is guidance on how to be still and rest just as you are and allow the seeds of truth to blossom. Before you plant your seeds, you prepare your field. This book helps you to cultivate a nourishing field of consciousness and also plants beautiful seeds of truth.

Whether you are seasoned with spiritual insight or just starting on your journey, you will find wisdom and comfort in these pages. We are all beginners and we are all in this together, lest we forget: Ryan reminds us of the simplicity of it all through A Course in Tranquility.”

  1. Hello Ryan,
    I have two questions.
    1. I much prefer learning from books than videos and wondered which of your books you would recommend for a beginner?
    2. I have been learning the Unified Mindfulness technique of Shinzen Young and wondered whether it could be a partner practice alongside Kriya Yoga possibly instead of the Vichara pertnership? (this question is possibly difficult to answer without more detail however if you have any thoughts it would be interesting.
    Thank you, Henry

    • Are you asking about astrology books? Volume 1 is good. Kriya Yoga Continuing the Lineage of Enlightenment if asking about Kriya Yoga. I can’t comment on combining techniques. My instinct says no.

  2. Hi Ryan, I watched your youtube video on book recommendations for learning Vedic astrology and wanted to know where to find some of those books? I was trying to find a copy of Sarvarth Chintamani on Amazon, but haven’t had much luck finding an English version.

    • That’s where I found mine. You have to keep checking back every now and again to see if they are available.

  3. Hello Ryan, I am having all emails to you returned. I am enquiring where my kriya yoga course is – I have completed the 11 hour one & bought the book with no problem but days ago I paid for the 26 hour course & no response. I have the PayPal receipt number – here it is: Receipt No. 6VM18677935486808

    • Dear Jenny: we have emailed you from two different accounts AND responded to your PAYPAL message. Have you gotten any of those? We also sent a NEW download link. Is your email functioning propely?

  4. Hello Ryan,
Being a beginner,Your book of Vedic Astrology is very useful.
I have 3 queries. Not sure how to order those.
1.How will we aggregate/weigh the planatory positions & Ascendant to arrive to possible trends. Any combination charts with posibilities like:
    HousePosition-Planet-InSign will do like ?
    1st-Sun-Aries
    2nd-Sun-Taurus

    11th-Sun-Aquarius
    12th-Sun-Pisces
2.How to see the 10th & 11th House Trends For a Scorpio Ascendant with Saturn in Lagna : Moon+Ketu+Venus in 10th house (worst house for Ketu in leo sign) and 11th house with a Combusted Mercury (with Sun)
    3. Will the above state will hinder the person spiritually. What will he do good?

    • Very good points. These are hard things to cover in an introductory book. Please consider the downloadable courses or the Apprenticeship Program, where we put the theory into practice.

  5. Oh great – that’s the one I have ordered & it should be on its way to New Zealand. By the way, for nadi shodhana – I clean my nostrils with the salty water in the neti pot. Loving the course & have set myself a regular time daily. I am used to disciplining myself with my yoga practice in the mornings so this gives me a worthwhile activity in the evenings so I don’t have to subject myself to silly TV! Thank you. Your speaking is very clear to me. So grateful. Namaste.

  6. Hello Ryan – I have recently downloaded the Introductory Kriya Yoga course & enjoying it immensely. Your instruction is very clear & succinct & no-fuss. My question is – I want to buy the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali & notice there are quite a few different interpretations. Which one do you recommend please? Namaste – Yogachittam (Jenny McLauchlan).

    • My book, Kriya Yoga: Continuing the Lineage of Enlightenment has a translation, which is the one I use when teaching.

  7. Hi Ryan,

How do I purchase The Art and Science of Vedic Astrology Volume II: Intermediate Principles of Astrology pdf version?

    • Dear Suriya: I do not have this one available in .pdf, but it is available as a Kindle download from amazon. That’s the only digital version I have.

    • Dear George, it is available as a kindle download, but at this time we do not have plans to convert it to ebook pdf.

  8. Hi Ryan,

I’m very interested in your new approach using vedic astrology technics utilising the tropical zodiac.
Are there any books available about this new approach?

Is your book “The Art and Science of Vedic Astrology” based on the tropical or siderial zodiac?

    • There don’t need to be any special books. Apply vedic astrological principles to the Tropical Zodiac. Ayanamshas may be different. Research Middle of Mula Galactic Center Ayanamsha. That one works best.

  9. Sorry Typo. “Useful”. Appreciate the reply. How about exploring to with a reliable publisher to make it worldwide?

  10. Hi Ryan,

I find your guide to Vedic astrology useless and clears up many doubts and uncertainty
Could I order The Art and Science of Vedic Astrology Vol. II: Intermediate Techniques and Applied Chart Assessment?

Because it is not in the blog. It says sep ’13. Cause I wanna go into intermediate after I finish book 1. I dun like a lag time in between.

    • Hi Henry: Since you want to order Volume II I am imagining you meant to say the book was useful and not “useless”. Yes? Yes, Book 2 is currently still in the final edit stage. It was due out in September, but is quite massive and taking more work than previously expected. It is nearly twice the size of volume 1. Have patience. I will announce on this blog once it is published. My aim is for Spring 2014 at the very latest. Thanks for your patience.

  11. Hi Ryan,

Sheryll here from Kriya Yoga weekend with Richard Fish, I hope you remember. How are you and your flight back in the States? I have found your website here and I saw this Homestudy and course curriculum. I’m very interested and eager to learn Vedic Astrology, one of many other things. So if you could please email me and let me know what you think. Thank you Ryan. I’m looking forward to hear from you soon. God Bless and peace be with you always.
